If you were in a Brigade Combat Team you would have a chance to be close to combat. Also, infantry units don't ask other Soldiers to be infantry for the day. But with your MOS you will be in a FA Brigade if I am not mistaken. Basically you would be pretty far back from any direct combat. If you were close to any battles you could be in your shortest engagement range and couldn't fire. <br /><br />Are you hoping to go into close quarters combat?Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made May 8 at 2019 5:09 PM2019-05-08T17:09:46-04:002019-05-08T17:09:46-04:00MSG Private RallyPoint Member4615432<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Well, from what I understand of the MLRS folks, y'all sit way in the rear and wait for the "Fire" command to blow up an entire grid square. As for being called into Infantry, I'm not sure how an Artilleryman would be thrown into the Infantry ranks.Response by MSG Private RallyPoint Member made May 8 at 2019 5:11 PM2019-05-08T17:11:03-04:002019-05-08T17:11:03-04:00MAJ Javier Rivera4615501<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Well something here is awkward: you are a soldier and doesn’t want to see combat. You know that the soldiers whole purpose in life is to trains for combat and if in combat achieve total victory, right????<br /><br />And at the same we blow the enemy with MRLS 300 miles out they attempt to do the same to us. The only way something like that would happen would be for an absolute last stand situation and even then extremely unlikely. Now you may receive deployments that are jobs other than 13M if your Guard or reserve. Bottom line is with the direction the US is moving with utilizing MLRS/HIMARS, you will be to much of a heavy ground asset to guys on the ground to risk putting you in a infantry position.Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 9 at 2019 3:54 PM2019-06-09T15:54:25-04:002019-06-09T15:54:25-04:00SGT Private RallyPoint Member4729010<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>That would only happen if the battery was assigned as a security detail on the deployment and not act as artillery.Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 17 at 2019 8:59 AM2019-06-17T08:59:01-04:002019-06-17T08:59:01-04:00SGT Private RallyPoint Member4762368<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>When I deployed to Iraq in March of 2003, I expected to rain hell on the enemy day and night. Instead, we ended up moving munitions from point A to point B. So we were basically 88M's.<br />That being said, there's no telling what you would be doing. Half the time you'll just be bored. You could be kicking in doors, pulling convoy security, radar, or bringing the rain.
