Sgt Ryan Reber6747015<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>All, I have a serious question I need some advice on. My son had a severe injury to one of his hands when he was 5. Missing half a little finger and some damage to 2 more although he uses it well. My question is does he have a shot at either the USMC Or the Army these days? He really has his heart set on it but i don,'t know if he can clear MEPS. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I would like to here from any current or recent recruiters of either branch on this. Thank you in advance for your input. What are the chances my son could join the Marines or the Army with a hand injury from his early childhood?2021-02-14T16:38:34-05:00Sgt Ryan Reber6747015<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>All, I have a serious question I need some advice on. There are medical waivers for many things but without an assessment, there’s no way to answer this question with any accuracy.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 14 at 2021 5:52 PM2021-02-14T17:52:54-05:002021-02-14T17:52:54-05:00SSgt Private RallyPoint Member6747379<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>As a recruiter for the Marines I can say it depends mostly on the function of his fingers and hand. If he still has full or mostly full functionality of his hand and fingers he *should* be good but at the end of the day it will be up to MEPS.Response by SSgt Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 14 at 2021 7:18 PM2021-02-14T19:18:58-05:002021-02-14T19:18:58-05:00SSG Brian G.6747646<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>All depends on the nature and severity of the injury and if it has an impact on dexterity and if that is his primary hand. He will need to speak with a recruiter and even at that he will need to be screened by MEPS to make that determination.Response by SSG Brian G. made Feb 14 at 2021 9:42 PM2021-02-14T21:42:01-05:002021-02-14T21:42:01-05:00LTC Jason Mackay6747766<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Go see a recruiter. Let MEPS tell you no. You can check AR40-501 CH2 and DoDI 6130.3. I’m on vacation and away from my computer to check further.Response by LTC Jason Mackay made Feb 14 at 2021 10:55 PM2021-02-14T22:55:34-05:002021-02-14T22:55:34-05:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member6748080<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Find a recruiter, get the medical notes, the CMO will let you know. May require a consult or a note from your primary care physician talking about functionality, range of motion, etc. Good luck.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 15 at 2021 5:52 AM2021-02-15T05:52:02-05:002021-02-15T05:52:02-05:00SFC Melvin Brandenburg6755846<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Only people who can make that determination is MEPS.
