Well, the SA airport is not so great. The local politicians wont allow Chik-fil-A to open a restaurant there.

Bexar County is run by the insane, so I moved to Boerne in Kendall County. Riverwalk, the Pearl, the Mission trail, SA has so much to offer, it depends on your interests.

I lived in San Antonio for a dozen years beginning in 1988 after retiring. I still have close friends there and we communicate regularly. The north-central and north-west, outside of the 410 loop are still full of good neighbourhoods. It's the 3rd largest city in TX and has the problems any large metro area has. The area makes about a third of its income from tourism, there's plenty to do in Central & South Texas, whatever your budget is.
It's also under near-lockdown at present.
