I've only had (still do) my CW issue boots. Crappy socks will make any footwear feel much less comfortable. I spent money on good, thicker moisture wick socks for these. There is also spray to temporarily make the boots water resistant. <br />I can't speak on aftermarket boots b/c I didn't make much during my time.Response by SPC Brian Mason made Oct 17 at 2016 7:31 PM2016-10-17T19:31:09-04:002016-10-17T19:31:09-04:00SGM Erik Marquez1987058<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div><a class="dark-link bold-link" role="profile-hover" data-qtip-container="body" data-id="180316" data-source-page-controller="question_response_contents" href="/profiles/180316-35d-all-source-intelligence-a-co-304th-mi-miccc">CPT(P) Private RallyPoint Member</a> Sir If I may... while you can afford "the best cold weather boots" can all of your Soldiers? Are you going to be asking of them something you're not willing or able to do ?? If they have to stand ASP guard for 4 hours in issue boots and you chastise them for complaining of the cold, or sitting down, starting a fire... all while your wearing gear and equipment they don't have,,, how might that be viewed by your soldiers? <br /><br />When your standing there in your go fast super duper cold weather boots, and your soldiers are standing there with frozen feet feeling miserable... it won't matter to them if your feet are just as cold...all they will think about is you and your boots..while they are stuck in issue gear your "Just too special" to useResponse by SGM Erik Marquez made Oct 17 at 2016 7:58 PM2016-10-17T19:58:33-04:002016-10-17T19:58:33-04:00LTC Kevin B.1987114<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I loved my Matterhorns. The ones I went with mostly because I have a wider foot were Danners. However I don't know if they'd be on the kosher list. Important features to look for are Gore Tex and room for a felt sole liner. Great idea from another MIL to also focus on the tootsie sleeves.Response by CAPT Kevin B. made Oct 18 at 2016 12:04 AM2016-10-18T00:04:29-04:002016-10-18T00:04:29-04:00MSG Private RallyPoint Member1989989<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>depends are your needs, goretex, water resilency, comfort, moisture wicking, I live just a stones throw from drum, winters are very bad, sm's should be issued the items they need to perform their job, warm/dry boots, gloves and head gear they shouldn't have to buy it, when I went thru artic warfare leaders school we had everything issued top to down, this shouldn't be an issue for sm's regionally stationed, just because your issued items doesn't mean they are usable in extreme weather, exceptions need to be made and the average joe shouldn't be paying for themResponse by MSG Private RallyPoint Member made Oct 18 at 2016 5:03 PM2016-10-18T17:03:23-04:002016-10-18T17:03:23-04:00LTC Private RallyPoint Member2327050<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Tora Bora. Crampon compatible, warm. If the fashion police are on block leave, Asolo fugitives are a solid pair. Now, before the "everyone gets a trophy" crowd join forces with the AR670-1 masochists, I realize not all units willl use them or allow them. Having spent some long hours in some very bitterly cold environments, I think common sense and preventing cold weather injury is worth more than draconian uniformity.Response by LTC Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 9 at 2017 4:44 PM2017-02-09T16:44:39-05:002017-02-09T16:44:39-05:002016-10-17T19:25:17-04:00
