I’m PCS’ing there at the end of the summer and am trying to figure a out what areas to start looking for a house along with a plethora of other questions about the area. It’s been pretty difficult finding anyone who knows anything about APG. Thanks a lot!

Hi SGT, I know a little about APG, I retired from APG back in 1994, I know that's centuries ago, but I did :-). There's a website called (realtor.com) you can look in the areas of Havre De Grace, which is right outside of APG, or you can look in the area of Edgewood, MD. about 15/20 mins outside of APG, another location is Bel Air MD which is about 30 mins from APG. APG is a very small post, it looks like a deserted post now, land wise it's a nice size, just not much to do on post though. If you want to travel a distance like 45 mins, you can always travel to Delaware, that's what I use to do, commute back and forth, not bad. Any way, get on that website as stated above and you will find various housing, town homes, single family homes etc., You can also, type in Elkton, MD. as well which is right over the bridge from APG, that's about 30mins. Good Luck, Hope it helps, if you need anything else just shoot me a message and I'll see what I can do for you okay :-) .

It depends on where you will be working. If you are working down in Edgewood, then Bel Air is going to be your best bet. If you are going to be working on the Main post, then i would recommend Havre de Grace. Thats where i lived. I just left there in July when i started Transition leave. I couldn't get out of Maryland fast enough. I95 is the worst highway in America. Good luck to you. Not a very exciting location to be stationed at for sure.

I should be on main post. That awesome to hear haha I’m just ready to get back to the lower 48 from Alaska. How are the Units there?

APG is unlike any post you have been to. It feels like its been deserted. There are not any regular type units there. 20th CBRNE CMD is the biggest unit there, that is where i was as an IG. Its a lonely place because its 90% civilian. PX is more like a Shoppette, commissary is decent. Everything is expensive, tolls to pay everywhere you go. traffic is the worst in the USA. Im sorry to not be saying anything good. Im just glad i left there. Not my style. If you like seafood, there is a lot of good places for that. I don't like seafood, hahaha. Beaches in Delaware are decent but overcrowded. I really wish you luck, maybe you find something you enjoy. I just didn't like it. I'm a Midwest guy and all those people was too overwhelming for me.
