From an administrative standpoint this seems counterintuitive because consolidation reduces expenses. But consolidation also increases bureaucracy creates more demand for management.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 15 at 2018 6:22 PM2018-12-15T18:22:56-05:002018-12-15T18:22:56-05:00PO1 Tony Holland4211080

Dental care for all vetsResponse by PO1 Tony Holland made Dec 15 at 2018 6:29 PM2018-12-15T18:29:01-05:002018-12-15T18:29:01-05:00SGT Private RallyPoint Member4211158

An honest reexamination of veterans benefits needs to happen. For example, travel pay through the VA. It’s the only healthcare system that I know of that pays you to go to appointments.
People look at me cross eyed when I say I don’t put in for travel pay at my VA appointments. But one of the reasons the VA and it’s associated programs are so bloated/backlogged, etc is because many of the programs are bloated and taken advantage of by Veterans. (Some, not all)

It’s a touchy subject, and it would just about be political suicide for a politician to advocate for any type of reduction in Vet benefits. But realistically, certain programs need to be streamlined/thoroughly examined for abuse or cut. Notably, the caregiver program and travel pay program. They need to be reorganized and vetted for only those Vets who actually need them. So much time, effort and energy is wasted through those two in particular, that could be far better spent on other programs.Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 15 at 2018 7:08 PM2018-12-15T19:08:49-05:002018-12-15T19:08:49-05:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member4211193

Dental for all Veterans: I don't have dental coverage anymore because I am no longer in the military , but that doesn't mean I don't need it. It is only for 100% percent veterans. I don't think this is fair because dental health is connected to healthy lifestyle. I know Sen. Bernie Sanders had introduced a bill , but no progress. I would hope this bill get sign by President Trump in the future.

2. Expand the G.I. Bill to 72 months: It has been proved that just having a undergraduate degree is not a enough in the work force. The G.I. Bill should expand be more than enough for veteran to pursuit to completed a graduate degree. When the G.I. Bill expand to this amount it will help veterans out tremendously.

3. Retroactive loss months of the G.I. Bill: I know it may not happen or change , but I am one of the veterans who gave their G.I. bill to their ex wives and can't get it back. I know once money is gone it is gone, but I would hope that as a one time waiver that a veterans can get their months back that they gave away. I am not saying that if a veterans does it more than once he get a waiver again , but it would help. We all made mistake in relationship and marriages before.

4. Student Loans Forgives for all veterans: I know that only 100% percent disabled veterans will have there student loans forgiven , but it shouldn't be just limited to them. There are veterans who either had to choose the G.I. Bill or the Student Loan Repayment Program when we join the military. It is not fair just to limited to 100% disabled veterans. There are some veterans who will never reach to 100% and it shouldn't be limited to just that.

5. Expand Veteran Health Care to Family: VA Health care is not just for veterans , but it should be expanded to family as well. It should be expanded as Tri-Care Prime and it should be with a fee. I wouldn't mind paying a fee for my family to have coverage through the VA for health and dental. It would be great if this could change as well.

6. G.I. Bill eligible to General Discharge: I have friends and acquittances who just have a General Discharge on their DD-214. I don't know in full detail what happened , but if you got a general discharge it shouldn't prohibit veteran with this discharge to be ineligible to use the G.I. Bill.

7. Veteran ID expanision: The Veteran ID should be expaned to a federal official ID. It is issues from the federal government so it should be consider a federal ID. It would also help if you could get access to Pre-Check TSA for veteran with this ID. I know there need to be a background check and it should , but I believe it should be expanded.

8.Stop Co-Pay for veterans under 50% disabled: The VA should not be charging veterans any amount of money for medication and or to see a doctor for an appointment. It is insulting to veterans who are in this category. They didn't ask to be at that percentage. I know for a fact that the VA wont be hurting for money if they stop this.

VA Disability and Retirement to Veterans who are less than 50% disabled: It is my same statement as above. The VA will not be hurting for money if they change this.

I know there are more important issues going on and this may not be a priority for 2019. However, it can be for 2020 -2021 in the future. I don't want future veterans to go through what I had to go through or what some of my fellows veterans have to go through. I will do my part to get support on this.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 15 at 2018 7:17 PM2018-12-15T19:17:40-05:002018-12-15T19:17:40-05:00SPC Private RallyPoint Member4213450

100% student loan forgiveness would be awesome SauceResponse by SPC Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 16 at 2018 4:44 PM2018-12-16T16:44:22-05:002018-12-16T16:44:22-05:00SFC Ssg Sabin4213775

IMPROVED LOCAL MEDICAL ACCESS FOR VETERANS WHO ARE TRAVELING.

I'm currently visiting an ill relative in a small coastal town in WA State. I had to rent a car to get here and then turned it in shortly after arrival. My stay has turned out to be much longer than expected and I'm dependent upon the relative for transportation while here. However, their vehicle is in standby mode for their own medical needs.

Shortly after arrival, I was in need of medical care as a result of a fall. The injuries though painful were not life-threatening, and I thought (I know, thinking again!) I could get some help from the VA either at a nearby clinic, or with transportation to one.

I placed a call to the area health admin out of Puget Sound and was told that I would either have to travel to one of their clinics or get authorization through tri-care. No volunteer transport was available. I found the closest clinic is in Chehalis Wa., almost 50 miles away. But before that, I would need to travel to the Puget Sound office to register under their health care system, which happens to be much further than 50 miles away. Explaining my transportation dilemma to them got me no wear. I asked them about the possibility of a local E.R. visit. and was told, "only in the event of a life or death emergency would the VA cover that".

I'm receiving my meds. through the mail here at this temporary address with no problem from my home facility (SNHCS Las Vegas NV), but I'm glad I have an extended Medicare Plan that covers me wherever I am. The Local VA was a confusing, screwed up mess! I was thinking of what we used to say about assumption, and I had assumed that a valid VA medical card in my wallet would get me treatment wherever I went. I should have checked that idea at the door before I left to come up here.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. The Puget Sound HCS had a community medical outreach bus parked in this small town so I stopped in to see if I could get some kind of basic treatment for my injury. I was told that they could do nothing for me since I was not in their system!!!!!!!!!!! About that time I was thinking about the little trick I once learned of wrapping a grenade handle with something elastic, then pulling the pin then dropping the grenade into the gas tank! But, alas, I had no elastic!Response by SFC Ssg Sabin made Dec 16 at 2018 8:11 PM2018-12-16T20:11:32-05:002018-12-16T20:11:32-05:00SFC Casey O'Mally4216557

I don't think GI Bill benefits should expire. If you do your 4 years and get out at 22 and then spend the next 30 years in an industry that gets phased out (like current manufacturing industry jobs), why shouldn't you be able to use that benefit to go retrain yourself?

I would also like to see some flexibility with declaring a major - give students a 2, maybe even 3 semesters before they lock in to a degree plan that way they can figure out what they are truly interested in... Just like a normal college student.

Finally, CRDP should be extended all the way to 10%. Losing any amount of retired pay because you draw disability is just wrong.Response by SFC Casey O'Mally made Dec 18 at 2018 3:01 AM2018-12-18T03:01:31-05:002018-12-18T03:01:31-05:002018-12-15T17:41:40-05:00
