I went to SLC with the impression that the courses were designed to hone and improve your skills as a Staff Sergeant and to prepare you for greater leadership roles and positions within your MOS. This, sadly, was not the case. The majority of time spent in my course was devoted to things that our STPs consider to be 10 level tasks. We had a BFT (Blue Force Tracker) tracker class that was new to me. But everything else I had learned as a Specialist. We did some very basic drill and ceremony (Prepare for Inspection) that was probably the only valuable thing we studied. Yeah, complete disappointment, thats how I would classify my SLC experience. The MOS portion was not good at all, the instruction was ran through and not well taught. The test was simple, but the issue was the teaching of the old logistic systems when a new system was already being implemented into the Army logistic pipeline. Overall, it is what you take from it. Its all paper based and classroom type stuff. They should go back to the field exercise, and the old stuff they used to teach. I want to be an effective leader, counseling and giving briefs to me isn't leading. I feel like BLC teaches you how to be an E5, instead of being a Sergeant.
