What are some recommendations on where to get gear for Air Assault School as an Airman?

Yes it depends on where you’re going to air assault school, since every post likes to do things in their own way within the standards of the Army. Nonetheless a surplus store will have everything you need.

I am currently an Air Assault School instructor in Hawaii. We get a lot of guys from the Air Force. We usually go by what the Airforce issues you as it will be different from other branches of the military.

I'm not an instructor but, the gear that I needed was commonly issued gear. The school will usually send out a packing list. I agree every school location is different but they require the same thing also. It's a military school not just an Army school.

Your unit should issue you the required gear. But if that doesn't work, the military clothing store might have what you need. Worse case scenario try Sportsmansguide.com. They sell a ton of military surplus gear, often its still current issue.

When I attended at Campbell, exceptions were made for sister services. If the equipment was issued and I’d the equivalent of the Army’s issued gear it was allowed. Example being rucks and items of the sort. Take this info with a grain of salt though, since I attended back in ‘09.

If you have orders to the school, then you should also have a list of required gear to take with you. If you don't, I'm pretty sure the school's webpage will have it.
