What are my options after being automatically reassigned to a new MOS in which I have no intention of re-enlisting? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-are-my-options-after-being-automatically-reassigned-to-a-new-mos-in-which-i-have-no-intention-of-re-enlisting

I received an email this morning from Retention informing me my MAR 2 was complete and I was now a 25U and needed to re-enlist. I checked my ERB and it already reflects this. My ETS is in June and i have no intention of re-enlisting as a 25U because i see no benefit to that MOS in the civilian sector. I will speak to Retention on Mon, but what happens now? I was with an aviation BDE (10th CAB to be precise) and I proved to be very good with computers and networking so they had me focus on that and not so much on the radios. I am now working in the private sector doing network administration. It also helps when you go to college, you will get credits for all of the time you spent doing all of the IT stuff, so if you think you might go the route of IT then I would suggest trying to get a B or N slot but if they are only offering U try to get your choice of unit, go aviation, they don't tend to have a lot of radio comms (at least none that 25 series work on, it was always the avionics guys) that way you can focus your time and energy on the IT side of the U

Just thoughts from a medically retired guy.... Now you are able to reenlist in that MOS, another MOS that you're medically qualified for or ETS. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 06 Jan 2017 12:25:18 -0500 2017-01-06T12:25:18-05:00 Response by CPT Jim Schwebach made Jan 6 at 2017 12:55 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-are-my-options-after-being-automatically-reassigned-to-a-new-mos-in-which-i-have-no-intention-of-re-enlisting?n=2222659&urlhash=2222659

This sounds like the car salesman that sends you a note that you've now had you vehicle for three years and, since it's probably paid off you are now qualified to buy anther new one. So why not come in and see what we have waiting for you on the showroom floor. Based on that offer you can go and see what they have to offer now, wait and see if they'll give you a better deal in a month or so or just ignore the sales pitch and keep to your current plans.

There's a parallel here somewhere. Do the best job of can maintain a positive attitude. There are no job skills .OR credentials which are not at the very least transferrable to the civilian market. X and out is not a great way to spend your remaking service time and certainly has the potential for the development of bad habits when a desired move into civilian employment or college education is in your immediate future. Simply decline reenlistment and enjoy the next chapter of your life. You should already be started with the transition process. Prepare your resume, attend job fairs, save your money, make the decision of what you're doing next (i.e. Work, college, start a business) prepare for it by getting civilian equivalent certs or licenses. Alternatively, research schools accreditations, admissions requirements, application suspended, costs, associated education benefits for tuition, scholarships, the ins and outs of the GI Bill. If you know you're getting out, there's a lot to do. Get started now!

One plug from a former 25U; the MOS is serving me well in the civilian sector. I'm now the network manager for all of Okinawa, Japan and doing well. Like I advised you, I obtained the necessary CIV IT certs to go along with my experience. I had no problem transitioning; I started out as network engineer making good money.
Congratulations on your upcoming ETS, I wish you the best and thank you for your service to this great country!
