What are my chances of being sent to group after completing airborne?

I am a 91F Small Arms/ Artillery Repairer. I am currently stationed in Germany with my family and have recently reenlisted for airborne with a bonus. My DEROS is about 60 days after the end date of airborne school. Now when will I find out what my next assignment will be? Are there any type of requests or is it needs of the Army? Any chance of going to group with a 110 GT and Secret clearance?

Talk to your career counselor, they should see open spots avail and whatever qualifications are needed for that job.

"Going to group" is not something you just do. I would start by finding out when the SF recruiter will be in your area. However, you are right that those are the MINIMUM requirements to apply to go to Special Forces Assessment and Selection. If you do choose to go to SFAS I wish you the best of luck in passing and being selected as one our few Quiet Professionals. Your days will not be short and your work will be filled with stress. Another thing to keep in mind is that going to SFAS does not block you from receiving your next assignment. If you get selected you will go back to your current unit and PCS as normal. Once the next Q Course is ready for you then you go back to Ft. Bragg. Lastly, if you are going through this just to stay in Germany then drop it now. This is a selfless choice, and the stress on your shoulders from SFAS will outweigh your desires.

It not that simple - The first step to wearing the Green Beret is to pass the Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course (SFAS). To get into this course, you must meet some basic physical fitness requirements by scoring a minimum of 260 on the Army physical fitness test for the 17-to-21 age group. Remember, that's the minimum score. SF is very selective and competitive, it helps to stand out in as many areas as you can. I recommend that you work toward these goals in your Army PFT:
- Complete the 2-mile run in at least 12 to 14 minutes
- 100 sit-ups in 2 minutes.
- 100 push-ups in 2 minutes.
Accomplishing these goals will bring you close to a perfect score of 300 and increase your chances of being selected for SFAS.

Don't shoot for minimum's.

After that you will need to go through Special Forces Qualification Course (SFQC) or Q course. Depending on your occupational specialty, this course will last from 6 months to a year; the medical and communications courses last longer.

Get a hold of your career counselor to help you get this process rolling - Good luck and way to set the bar high.

I'm assuming that you're asking about going to an SF Group as a 91F MOS Soldier. I don't think odds are high (or in fact they may be zero) to go to a Group just by chance. Contact your Career Counselor and an SF Recruiter and let them know you are interested in going to an SF Group. Don't wait to let the Army reveal their next assignment to you. Furthermore, I suggest you use RallyPoint's advanced search to find other 91F in SF Groups now and ask them how they got there. Here is a SGT 91F at 10th SFG. As a 91F you need to start talking with your HRC Branch Manager and if you are trying to get a pin-point assignament your odds are small. Nevertheless, at the end of the day is all about what position your branch adjudicated for your PVC cycle; hence the need to be in constant contact with your branch manager and not only when your PCS approaches. Anyway, get with HRC and talk since for what you state there is no assignament for you at this moment beside the fact of your CONUS return.

SF Groups have support units with support MOS's. They don't go to SFAS because they are not 18 series candidates. They are not authorized to wear the Green Beret, they wear the maroon Airborne beret and SF shoulder patch. They are on jump status so obviously you must be Airborne qualified. Your best bet would be to contact on of the groups to volunteer and get a letter of acceptance.

91F ... to group... You would have to call your HRC or APPD but as a SPC you might find one or two spots opened or opening. You could work at a BN or Support (CMDRs need), but only in the Arms room if it's on the MTOE even. More then likely you'll go to a post and work at a Division level shop helping your civilian counterparts repair stuff (you'll learn a lot). You are airborne, which almost means nothing as far as assignment in junior ranks. So you could be off to bragg or alaska to jump with those small arty units.
Looking at some resources there are only around 2500 total in your MOS and 484 total Army slots for 2016 at your current pay grade and most jobs are at Fort Hood, then JBLM, but a fair amount in HI... I'd ask for that.
You do have 56 jobs not slots in the SP command for SPC, so just call your HRC and ask.

It's going to be hard to get that pin point assignment unless you have some serious pull. Priority slots go as follows: all 18 series (obviously) >> Enabler ( 38's 37's 35's and 29's) >> Support ( every other MOS)... In order to be "in demand" so to speak, you need an "S" identifier that represents a Special Operations Soldier. All Civil Affairs, SF, PsyOps and 160th SOAR personnel have them due to their attending a SOF QUAL course. Everyone else, they can just grab at random. You meet the min reqs being ABN and having S clearance, but unless you have some pull in HRC or at Group, you could just as easily wind in in Italy or Bragg.
