Do you want to do it ? Then apply!!! Do you want the experience and the knowledge that comes from it ? Then apply !! Are you scared about not getting it ? Too bad ! life isn't fair !!! If you can't get the guidance from your NCO get another one to help !!

Your career is your career not anyone else's , I have seen so many Soldiers wonder this same question and I always told them apply !! ADOS doesn't typically pay for a soldier to relocate as they are typically temporary positions that go fiscal year to fiscal year. I'd imagine a local guardsman has a better chance especially if there is still a requirement to drill and do AT with your actual unit.

I always found out about ADOS positions through my Retention NCO/Platoon Sergeant. Whenever a position is sent to him whether it's ADOS, AGR or Fed Tech he'd e-mail the info out. I'd recommend getting in touch with your own AGR NCO's to see if they have any info about open positions. He also assisted me with putting my packets together.

One thing that I believe helped me get considered and interviewed for positions is that I always included my resume and I also included a cover letter explaining why I was interested in the position and why I felt that I was a good fit. It is a courtesy that you should afford them. I used Tour of Duty to find my current position. I am on Title 10 ADOS. The Guard did pay to PCS me to my new duty station. However though I still drill with my home state. The policy varies from state to state. In addition to this your promotion still based of your home state. So if you want to stay in good standing you might want to still participate in your units drills. Tour of Duty is a great resource but it is extremely competitive. You can see how many people apply for a position. I went into a unique position where I didn't have much competition. I am not saying that you won't get the position but you might have to apply for a few positions until you get picked up. I have known some that it never worked out for but that shouldn't be a reason to stop applying. The absolute worst thing that will happen is someone else will get selected. Be sure that your TOD profile is up to date with your 705, medpros screenshot, and a current biography as well as your most recent evaluations. This is a job application. Make sure it's complete. Also, contact the POC listed for the job to see if it's been staffed. TOD is just the formal process for going through channels to get orders. I've done several tours through TOD and it's best to touch base with the POC listed in the position description for more detailed guidance. It also gives you a chance to make an initial first impression.
