What are you working on?
2 main areas to start. Intake and exhaust. Every time. From there you can do internals but an engine is really an air pump. More in, more out. Until they are made to be efficient you will be wasting your money.

From there you can do cams, heads (port and polish/valves) or power adders (nitrous/turbos/super chargers). The sky is the limit. Keep in mind two things; It costs a lot to go fast, and Speed is addictive.

SGT Private RallyPoint Member - I cannot abide refilling tanks - so no nitrous for me. The first and most important part is to get a thoroughly experienced wrench head on board - by whatever means is necessary. Then a Chevy big block crate engine (or LS if you are rebuilding a rice box), positive displacement supercharger or turbo intercooler - cold "heavy air" intake system. Hack the engine electronics for precision instrumentation and to optimize power output control systems. Fuel injection, increased head space, cold forged, annealed & anodized high lift steel crank shaft, rods, pistons, inconel valves and copper-beryllium valve seats, racing suspension, racing breaks, racing tires, and a pretty radical complex electronically animated undercarriage lighting system. Precision traffic, radar, laser, red light, and bear sensing NAV COM intercept / jammer with the latest possible generation GPS. That's about it for stock parts - then you can get into a bit more exotic parts and fuels for more performance. Warmest Regards, Sandy :)

What type of vehicle are we talking about here? The standard intake, header, and exhaust combo is popular for a lot of vehicles. Power adders like nitrous, supercharging, and turbocharging is also popular albeit more involved because of the tuning and prerequisite mods to make them run optimally.
