What advice do you have for someone attempting to transition into an airport security (or something similar) career?

Often larger Army reserve centers have some sort of office that provides services to job seeking Soldiers. Try the Allen Hall Reserve Center. Also try government job sites on line or TSA website.

You could also call the city and see if they have any employment centers. Most larger cities have jobs listing organizations and websites. Even Sherman, TX has the Texas Workforce Commission (http://www.workintexas.com).

I've applied to the TSA in the past through USAJOBS.gov, do you have any other background with the Corps other than metal work? Also there are plenty of security contractor organizations who hire from the military for work inside and outside the border.

I recommend DHS and not TSA. DHS is actual law enforcement with a multitude of training opportunities and duties which is hiring big time especially in the veteran community.

Hey Zach. You might do well to start with some sort of local law enforcement, like a county or municipal department. They're often easier to get in with, and provide great experience. I know the Louisville, KY airport has their own police department (who also serve as firefighters and EMTs) but I'm not sure how many rely on something other than TSA.
