MAJ Bryan Zeski 5241727

Just curious how the AIM2 talent-management system is working for everyone. I've been trying to keep track of some interesting trends and observations on my side, but I'm curious how it looks to everyone else going through it? How are the units handling it?

Some observations from my POV:

1. Twitter - there are a few good Twitter folks out there who have been invaluable in providing timely AIM2 information - how it works, what the timelines are, etc.

2. The market is ever-changing. The market has been open for a little over a month, I had my 256 assignment options preferenced and then, today, another 12 assignment opportunities opened up. I'm sure some have been killed off as well, but I don't have a good way of tracking those.

3. There are still a fair number of units that haven't even started inputting their preferences yet, and we're a week and a half out from the closing time. I'm also curious how many Officers haven't preferenced anything (but I have no way of knowing that data).

4. Not surprisingly, there are some assignments that have zero interest - Irwin, Polk, and Korea are the usual suspects.

5. Interaction with units is good - emailing them about interest, rather than just hoping they catch your "Top Ten" flag is a good way to get in and get those interviews.

What have you all seen? What questions are still out there? How can we help the next cycle of folks who needs to PCS AND help the units get the right people?

This is a link to the video I found most helpful in understanding the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=9mEBe7fzrmI&app=desktop

Army Talent Alignment Algorithm

The Army Talent Alignment Process (ATAP), uses a mathematical algorithm to match soldiers to available positions. I was a 19-01 mover when they first used the system. I had just finished a three year tour at NTC as a Med pilot. I wanted to go to Bragg, Hunter AAF, or Campbell. The unit at Hunter AAF showed interest in me, and I was told in person by my branch manager that I would be “penciled in” for Bragg. Well, after all of that I ended up in Korea. Just like I knew I would. Reason being is that there were literally SEVEN pilots from my small BN at NTC who were 18-02 or 19-01 movers and everyone but 2 were sent to Korea (one of the other 2 couldn’t because of an EFMP issue.) I hope the new system works better to match people to what they would like as well as what works well for the Army. I’ve been in for almost 18 years now and I’m not mad at being in Korea for the first time, I just wish we wouldn’t spend millions in tax money on a system that in the end doesn’t even matter.
Additionally, I do have insight from others who were in the developing stages of the program. It was designed more for Post-Command CPTs and above, not ALL Officers/Warrant Officers. I guess we will see how thIs all works out.
