We looked for 2015 data for the federal definition of mass shootings, but it isn't yet available. Based on its definitions, we would expect the total to be significantly lower than Mass Shooting Tracker, but we can't say by how much.

USA Today has been tracking the data and found approximately 18 mass killings by firearms so far in 2015.

It's a word game.

It's how you define Mass Shootings.

A Mass Shooting is any time 4 or more people are shot in a single event. This includes Gang Related or Family Related events. Rampage Shootings (like the Oregon School shooting) are what most people think of when they say Mass Shooting.

Let us assume this is true (it is not). The problem is that we as a nation are not actually addressing the problem with our easy solutions. The easy solutions are to reduce the number of guns on the streets, yet the statistics show that historically we have undergone similar spikes in mass shootings even after increased legislature limiting gun ownership. The only consistent conclusions we can draw are the following:
- As the population goes up, so does violence against larger populations
- As the economy gets worse, so does violence against larger populations
- As access to information grows, so does statistical reporting of information
* As the number of weapons on the street decreases, the number of shootings still grows!

Note that last statistic. Granted, one could easily argue that we could ban *all* weapons and we would drive the number of mass shootings to zero, and it may be true. However, as is the case in nations with zero gun freedoms, the population finds a way to be violent and kill people, albeit in smaller numbers per incident, yet the spikes in violence follow similar trend. It is human nature to kill one another, especially as resources become more and more scarce (temporarily or permanently).

On the topic of statistics, we can have some fun with stats. The spikes in violence are inversely proportional to the average math scores on SAT tests. Mass shootings spike in years and locations with higher average temperatures and less rain. Perhaps we should mandate more math classes, ban warm weather, and mandate rain.

Are they counting Chicago, D.C., etc. in that number? If so, those numbers MIGHT be somewhat close. Could they be counting gang related shootings? That should be a totally separate number. She lies like Billary does. Like a rug! What a POS...

In a 2005 FBI report, mass shootings were defined as an incident wherein a shooter kills or wounds at least four persons at one more locations. So, the 294 mass shootings that DWS claims would have included at least 1,176 victims. It seems that she is gilding the lily just a little bit, don't you think. Interestingly, there were almost 380 people shot in Chicago during the month of August this year. Maybe DWS is confusing Chicago with mass shootings. Even more interesting is the fact that Chicago has done more to disarm law abiding citizens than any other jurisdiction in America. What does that tell you?

Either the number of deaths is too high (there would have had to have been a minimum of 1,176 if the number of shooting is correct), or the number of shootings is too high (there couldn't have been more than 95 if the number of deaths is correct), or someone simply made both of the numbers up, or someone is illiterate and innumerate.

Personally I'll go with a combination of the third and fourth possibilities.

Sgt Tom Cunnally . As the old saying goes, figures don't like but liars figure. It is all about spreading panic and creating fear/concern amongst the populace. We don't want to address the reality staring us in the face regarding mentally deranged people running amuck in our society.

Mentally unstable people are exposed and desensitized to violence every day. Shooting someone happens on TV and in movies and in games so often it is a non event, just a blob on the end of your front site post.
