Was the Snowstorm of 1-23-2016 as big as they predicted or was the weatherman wrong again?

Anecdotally, it is directly on par. I'm outside Quantico. Looks like we have about a foot, and are expected to reach 15" by evening.

Meteorologists are always wrong; it's just a matter of how wrong they are. We shouldn't expect perfection. From what I've heard, the meteorologists' predictions have been fairly close on this storm.

The State of Virgina was in a State of emergency as of yesterday morning. Yes although i see how they thought it was going to be worse then what it really was, It really didn't get that bad here on Post. Yes it closed down at 1400, But that was for most of the civilians to have time to get home. I don't believe we should have gotten put into a state of emergency just yet.

We have so much to consider and did you know, that upper air features, are fluid. They are probably more important than surface features. sfc, 100mb, 850mb, 700mb, 500mb, 300mb, 250mb, disturbances, relative voriticity, helicity, upper air soundings, dry intrusions, advected and convection, Upper Vertical Motion, thickness, warm overrunning, etc, etc, etc. We do the best we can. It was. We wound up with about 30" total by the end out by my home in Manassas. PWC schools were closed for the entire week because they were slow getting to the parking lots after the snow because the roads were so dang bad and they had no place to actually put the snow.
