In my opinion yes, it took over a year to do fier McCarthy, 1 officer to be brought under charges where there should be more charged and the only reason these happen is because of the lawsuite to release the tape.

Hell yes this guy was tossed under the bus. This was hidden so the Mayor could get re-elected and then he tossed McCarthy under the bus.

If he fixed the problems that are affecting the city - gangs, guns, drugs, education - black men won't be perceived as a dangerous gang member. I'm sick and tired of all the BS political grandstanding moves like this that look like positive actions. How does his firing correct flawed threat assessment within the police force? Sacrificial lamb for the masses.

It was the right thing to do, but unless you understand the Chicago political machine, it would be difficult to realize the hill he would have had to climb to have made inroads. Once there was a Superintendent of Police named Roy Martin (he was black) that visited Singapore and found that one of the prime reasons that crime rates were so low was the "stop and frisk" method of preventing crime. He tried to get the Aldermen to approve that and was immediately fired. Bottom line, he had the job and nothing improved. If Rahm thinks the backlash is going to stop with this action, he isn't as smart as everyone gives him credit for.

Yes, absolutely!!! The Commander is ultimately responsible for the behaviors and attitudes of his troops. That means when morale sucks, it's the Commander's responsibility. Might not be his fault, but it is his responsibility.

And over 200 people are shot every month in Chicago. WTF?

Sure did! It's easy for the "Professional" politician to pick up said scape goat firmly by the scruff of the neck and toss him directly under the heavy rubber wheels of the bus where he shall be run over repeatedly. I mean cmon, people need someone to blame! LOL
