Was it difficult for you to adapt to a civilian position when you left active service?

I see veterans daily that are looking for employment and they seem plenty qualified for positions that are readily available. Are they holding out for something that's too elusive thinking their military status will get them the cream of the crop in offers?

There are many aspects at play when it comes to post-military employment for veterans. Many are holding out for better offers because they feel like they deserve it for one reason or another. Companies have fewer veterans these days than in the past and many do not understand, or possibly fear, veterans in the workplace. The list goes on. For me the transition wasn't too bad but I didn't go to work right away really. My first job out of the military was working in a kitchen while I went to school and that life style is reminiscent of the military so I enjoyed it. Other jobs have been a little more difficult. I currently work for a non-profit helping veterans and full of veterans so it's pretty easy to adjust

Yes. Civilian nursing did not deliver the immediate reward of evacuation hospital nursing.

In addition, how many of you are still doing something related to your military occupation? I actually chose to be a mechanic and thought I might enjoy that route cause I was always a car guy...how things can change! I've not touched a wrench for work (nor is there a desire to do so) since 7/2/2001...my ets date! Sales seems to be what so many turn to....maybe it's the nature of military training....respect, integrity, honor, all of it.
