Veterans jobless rates drop to historic lows

The unemployment rate for veterans dropped to a seven-year low in August, and the rate for Iraq and Afghanistan war-era veterans fell to the lowest level since federal officials started tracking that population.

1stSgt Private RallyPoint Member it is great that the numbers for unemployment are down, but unfortunately, they don't account for people who have stopped looking for work.

Great post 1stSgt! For disabled vets that are above the 30% threshold, I'd seriously recommend going to their VA and applying for Vocational Rehabilitation. You'll go through a screening and if accepted, you can be placed as an intern in the federal government somewhere with a strong chance of being hired. While working as the intern, you'll be paid BAH at the E5 with dependents rate. So there are many opportunities out there and no, I wasn't paid by the VA to say this, but I am in this program right now. We need to get into these positions and change the way things are ran now.

Good news for a change. I suspect that a lot of hiring initiatives for disabled vets have made a huge difference...

It is good news, but it is artificial as the U3 is not counting all job hunters, more needs to be done.
The U6 is still over 10.3% and their is 94 Million out of the labor force, this is the lowest job participation rate in 40+ years.

This is good news, but like the other responders I fear that some of these numbers may be artificially inflated.
