For disabled vets that are above the 30% threshold, I'd seriously recommend going to their VA and applying for Vocational Rehabilitation. You'll go through a screening and if accepted, you can be placed as an intern in the federal government somewhere with a strong chance of being hired. While working as the intern, you'll be paid BAH at the E5 with dependents rate. So there are many opportunities out there and no, I wasn't paid by the VA to say this, but I am in this program right now.
