I'm just to tired to do it any more. Here is a funny story for ya. I called the VA yesterday to talk to a shrink because I wanted to blow my brains out. I got put on hold for ten minutes and was finally told by the receptionist that a shrink would call me back within three hours. That was yesterday. I'm still waiting for that call. Well, I thought the irony was funny at least. I've learned that most people talk a lot of game but never deliver. Oh, I sold my pistol today because just the thought and condemplation of "opting out" totally disgusted me. I do want to apologize to Jen Heagy. I promised her a flag for Shon and couldnt deliver. My intent was sincere but no one would help me and i am now basically broke so I cant even buy one. I just want her to know that my heart was in the right place. I now know what Shon might have felt that night when he laid down in front of that train. I cant kill myself because to me that is the one unforgivable sin so I just pray to god now that he would just get it over with and take me out on his terms. It would be my luck he makes me live past 100 or something like that. So for now I'm just waiting for him to grant my prayer. I dont fit here and never did. I was stupid enough to believe that there was hope in a world full of human beings who build themselves up on the backs of people like me. We are our own worse enemies. Thanks for the check up. That in itself is a very dangerous situation. A few weeks ago, I found myself in that type of situation, and I had to re-establish trust in my s/o. Everyone was suspect, and everyone was "out to get" something in my view.
Granted, my situation has not improved much, but re-establishing trust in one person helped me tremendously. Secondly we can find out where he lives and get the VA crisis team to help him out. Also we can get the DAV and other associations out and about with his name before something bad happens between him and his wife. He just needs to know he is not alone and that other people and other veterans care. I felt this way when they had to cut on my back and I became disabled (as I broke my back in 5 places and worked for 25 years with a broken back and became disabled after the surgeries and felt lower than snail scum when I became disabled-sort of less than a man). If he allows you to, give him my contact info or send me his. Another good source of help is his State Representative and his Congressman, as they can speed things along if they take the time to research his case. The VA was going to make me wait 6 months to a year but my State Rep told them they already made me wait 5 years. We need to show him as a community of fellow military personnel that he is not alone and that if he can muster some patience he can get through this. I think they mean well but truly lack the resources and personnel to accomplish the feat. I would encourage this veteran to contact the USA Suicide Hotline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255). They are available 24/7s. The volunteer on that line should be able to provide guidance in many ways. Another approach would be the Wounder Warrior Project @ http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/. They have offices in 17 states.

I lost a childhood friend and fellow veteran to suicide. I tried my best to communicate with him and provide help, but he shut me out. I have always felt there must have been something else I could have done, but I know that is not true.

My best recommendation to this Veteran is that many of us have been in very low spots in life as well as in life threatening situations. Years ago, I found myself there and fought all temptations to end it all. The most positive step I took was to put it all behind me and return to my pursuit of higher education and to make connections that were truly meaningful. However, the first thing a person must do is put himself in the frame of mind that he does need and want help. Pride has to disappear as you learn to reach out for guidance. Yes, people will disappoint you in your time of need, but your true friends will step forward with a steady hand and help you wade through your present situation until you can finally see light at the end of the tunnel. Temptations to give in abound in every situation, but every veteran knows that giving in to any enemy is not an option. We must adapt and overcome; develop new strategies and move forward even if forward is in a flanking position. Had to find out in a court room that the daughter I loved wasn't mine and I still loved my wife my life fell so deep that I finally have found my bottom homeless and living in a uhaul storage unit. I got 100 from the va and even got my Social Security too. But still just can't seem to get my shit together. Found out that I have been lost in tdrl to the point that I have 24 years in and should have been collecting my retirement pay for last 4 years too. But it still doesn't matter l just can't seem to get it back it feels like I'm completely dead inside and the va mental health clinics are the biggest joke since military intelligence. So I understand never give up and never sell out our core beliefs. Stay strong you are not alone there are a lot of us that just can't seem to get it back together.
