Another black eye for the Department of Veterans Affairs after new reports that a Marine veteran was locked inside a VA clinic in Florida. Jeff Duck called 911 Monday after the staff went home, forgetting that he was in a room waiting for the doctor.

That does not surprise me. Supposedly they have so much money, just cannot hire enough. What upsets me the most though is that people get bonuses for not being competent, having some lie, and then lashing out at whistle-blowers. Fix the system, take back the bonuses! In fact take away the possibility of bonuses. We are government employees and we do not get bonuses for doing well. I also feel bad for those who are great and doing great in the VA system and seem to be getting a bad name from these scandals. I know a few of them and it just breaks their heart as much as it does ours.

As much as I like to bash on the VA for their policies and such, I can't really lay this one on them. This is just another one of those stories about the personnel in the building being bone-heads and not doing end-of-day checks and such.

Wow. All I can say is wow.

From my point of view I see two oops issues here.

1. The clinic. Security, senior staff and the individual responsible for the room the veteran was in - all total dumba$$3$.

2. The veteran. When does personal responsibility start? If I haven't been seen by someone within an hour after I'm in a room - I'm asking questions and making noise. This veteran, as much as it pains me to say it...has to join the club - stupid is as stupid does.

I'm truly blown away. I've heard stories of their gross incompetence, but wow!
The sad thing is had he left and they called him before they closed, they would document on his record he left or was a no show! SMDH!
