VA wants all the benefits paid to me over the last 10 yrs They contacted me after SSA labeled me disabled. Can someone help me understand?

They gave me 1 month to come up with 30,000 or they file suit. Of course I can't pay it. They took my benefits and my kids. No reason given, just I was going to receive anymore. They told my bank I lied and stole the money, which totally trashed my credit. Like I said the VA contacted me. I never ask for any money, I did ask for a DR. appointment and it took 12 yrs to get that. Local VA counselers won't help or say they can't. I need help fast.

I am in nooooo means an expert in this arena... but I think you need to call a Lawyer that deals with veteran cases ASAP.

So let me get this straight, the "VA contacted you" and started sending you money - which you accepted and spent - (without knowing what it was for) - and now they figured out it was a mistake (could have been "the wrong guy") and you don't think you should have to pay the money back?
Did you ever try to let them know you were being sent this money for no reason?

CPL Roland Newton You need to help us understand this a little more than what you have so far. Where you or are you a disabled veteran? Were you entitled to these benefits to the best of your knowledge? No one can help you if we don't have all the facts. If there is information you can't share on this forum, then you need to get it to someone confidentially and quickly. But they will need to know all the facts (all pertinent facts). After reading this thread, I still don't see the correlation between SSA and VA per se, nor is there sufficient information in your post to help guide you correctly. However, there is a comment you made that concerns me, "will they go after my wife and kids after I'm gone"........ If it means what it appears it means, I suggest seeking advice from someone who can help with what you may be contemplating. That avenue is no fix to the situation, we're trying to live through the death of my Navy brother-in-law and 10 years later, my father-in-law as a result of their poor choice.

As for your broad statement, I believe you have some great guidance herein. Another source I would suggest is researching on VAWatchdog.org. Jim Stricklen who operates the web site has great insight and leads to most questions related to VA. If he doesn't he does have VA sources he can tap into.
