So I did. When I went to my county vets affairs office out of curiosity, they leaped into action interacting with the VA, and I ended up with valuable unexpected benefits. In addition to other much bigger things, i have free and low-cost sporting licenses from two states. Another organization, Disabled American Veterans, has done wonders for vets in getting benefits. So maybe just get in touch with any local outfit with the word "Veterans" in it, and see where it goes... It'll probably depend on that state you're in too because many states have additional resources based on your needs.
