USAA could be the best bank in the US. Agree or disagree? Do you have or know of a better bank?

I have been with this bank for 28 years. Am I just blinded to other possibilities? Are there better banks out there?

In the 51 years I've been a USAA member, I've had the pleasure of dealing with USAA on numerous occasions. The first was when AAA Auto Insurance cancelled when they learned I was in the military (True story, I had just returned with my second tour in RVN and got a call from the agent who allowed as how he had seen an article in the paper about my time in RVN and that, since we soldier types tended to lend our vehicle to fellow soldiers, it was AAA policy not to insure us low lifes.) USAA insurance has been wonderful ever since claims are processed quickly and in a friendly manner. Even better there are no hassles with the repair facilities - when you mention that USAA is your insurer their eyes light up. I've also used their banking products with absolutely no problems no matter where I've lived - including the Middle East. The only thing I've not been able to use them for is insurance on this little place out in the country. They don't do ag liability. My current auto loan is 3.74%.

As much as I love USAA in the last couple of years I have been getting really good rates from Navyfederal on auto loan for some odd reason. I will say this though USAA's insurance and home owners insurance is the best out there and that is why I have it...

I know of no other bank that refunds you ATM service charges like USAA does. I LOVE THIS COMPANY!!!

COL Lee Flemming Sir I also know a really close realtor that told me that USAA has failed to close on home mortgages so she went with other banks

Disagree heavily, they are a solid #2 at best. I'll take navy federal every day of the week. PenFed is also excellent if looking for a low rate. USAA is great, but not my #1.

I've been a member since I entered active duty and have never been let down by their customer service. Just used them for my first home loan and found them to be highly competitive against local & national lenders. Also, highly responsive throughout the entire escrow process. I'll be keeping USAA in the family for a long time.

I don't have any personal dealings with USAA for banking purposes. I've had auto and homeowners insurance with them for close to 20 years and couldn't be happier. As for the bank....Personally, I prefer "brick and mortar" facilities where I can talk to a person face to face to resolve issues or explore new features (loans, safety deposit, investments, etc)

I agree completely, not just for insurance and banking, but also investing. My only regret is that I couldn't use them for business banking. I had to rely on the same commercial banks that civilians use and thus was reminded of how terrible banking can be. No question, USAA is #1. One of my greatest delights came when I learned that my children could become members. They too take advantage of USAA and are loyal customers.

With NFCU for 29 yrs now. Wife and our three kids are all members as well.

GEICO for car insurance for 22 yrs now.

I've always heard real good things about USAA.

I would say Navy Federal Credit Union would be number one for all service members. I currently bank with Global Credit Union which once was Fairchild Federal Credit Union and was strictly for service members and family. To increase their membership they now are open to anyone who lives in Washington State. But they still maintain their military ties. I do use USAA for all insurance and a credit card. If I where to change banks it differently would be to NFCU.

I've had USAA for 12 years and will continue to use them however..

Over the past 7 months I have been very disappointed.

1. USAA allowed someone to drain my account with only knowing my vehicle type and SSN.

Confirmed it as identity theft then discontinued all cards and reimbursed the money.

2. Sent the new card not to my mailing address but to my parents address they had on file for some reason. Then had to resend it to the correct one leaving me unable to pay my bills or get cash for a month and some change.

3. Cancelled my card for the VISA switch 3 months after issuing me my new card. Again sent it to my parents address instead of my mailing address. Then corrected the problem and sent it to my mailing address.

4. New card still never arrived. Sent card again in express mail.

Conclusion. Out of the last 7 months I was unable to access my money for 3. Pissed off at USAA but too convenient to switch... for now.

I'm with both USAA & NFCU. I've got my checking, savings, and credit cards with Navy while my mortgage and insurance policies are with USAA. All my auto and motorcycle loans have been with USAA as well. Just all-around better rates.

I have had Usaa for just over 10 years now. I have used them for everything ie; banking car/rent/homeowners insurance, investing auto loans and saving. Recently I have been shopping around more and found state farm to be a better priced home owners and car insurance. This difference was by a lot! I still use them for my everyday banking but I will always shop around. I have had nothing but great experiences with them!

I highly recommend this bank. They certainly are worth their name, the value they produce for the service member and their dependents, and the services they hold for their members. Like-minded banks would include Navy Federal or Pentagon Federal; I am not sure if they handle their members as well as USAA.
