FYI for people in Massachusetts (veterans/active duty/retired) that need health care. The premium is 115$ a quarter, for a family. Yup, that's 39$ bucks a month.
Had Blue Cross/Blue Shield federal and the coverage and services are on par, if not better, than what BC/BS covered.
Also, for those of you that hate to deal with the BS of the VA, this is a very affordable second opinion. For example, needed an MRI from the VA, 3 1/2 month wait at JP. Went to my civilian doctor and had it done the next day. Same with urgent care visit. told to go to West Roxbury for emergency care, told them to go kiss themselves (VA) and drove 2 min to Caritas were I received far better care than I would have received from the VA.
Only reason I am posting this, is because a couple of the VA group (adaptive sports/kayaking) program I am in. I have talked to a handful of vets you did not know about this insurance and that it was available to them. It seems is not advertised that well to qualifying people. Only downside of this insurance is it odd coverage area. The six

Christus Health—serving Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana;
Johns Hopkins Medicine—Serving Maryland, Washington, DC, Delaware, and parts of Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania;
Martin’s Point Health Care—Serving Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and parts of New York state;
Pacific Medical Center—Serving the Puget Sound area of Washington state;
St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers—Serving parts of New York (including New York City), all of New Jersey, Southeast Pennsylvania, and Western Connecticut.

Oh and just watch the VA in regards to billing your insurance. They billed BC/BS for ten's of thousands of dollars for service connected injuries while I went through surgery and physical therapy when I returned from Iraq, something they are not suppose to do but they do it anyway.

Not sure I understand the question or is it just a statement. I have no idea why it's so complicated, I think it has something to do with the price or rice in China but I'm not positive about the connection.
I had blue cross/blue shield plus tricare as a secondary. I did not know if this insurance was better and to be honest, was hesitant to switch because I would lose the bc/bs insurance and not be able to enroll back into it. I signed up with US Family health as a third option for insurance, figured the 39 bucks could not hurt and I could see if it was any good. Well, tricare rolled into it or it rolled into tricare, either way it replaced my tricare coverage from my retirement. It turned out to be far better then bc/bc so I dropped them and saved about 420 bucks a month in doing so.
This insurance company (US Family Health) is very limited in it's coverage, though I have never looked into if other such insurance companies exist in other states, so can't comment on if that is an option or not. I would venture a guess there are others but would not want to assume there are and give so false info.
As a side note, if you need to go to the VA after you get out (save ALL medical records from you're time in service, make copies) for any reason, you could still have this insurance a second opinion. Plus, the VA coverage wont cove your family and this will. Just play stupid when they (VA) ask you if you have other insurance.
Also, it is not readily made public, or even told to you when you get out. Why, it's seems to me to be like any other program that the government (VA) has, you need to find out about it and then contact them.
