UC Irvine is the same University that garnered national attention March 3, when The Associated Students of University of California supported a resolution to ban the American flag in some spaces on campus because it represented “hate speech” and “made people feel very uncomfortable and unsafe.”

Uhlig Sadly, while I support this as the right decision to avoid protestors at a place and time of attempting to gain good candidates, I am disturbed at the number of people who are so misinformed. The "haters" have no idea what laws are enforced by whom and what laws are not being enforced due to Executive branch policy and guidance. The United States Border Patrol is a legendary law enforcement organization and any one would be lucky to work for them. The US BP is also an integral member of the Homeland Security team and makes a valiant effort to stop or at least slow the tide of drugs and people illegally coming across the North and South borders of the US.

It was a good call but even more so for the students. So what happens to the students who are interested and don't like the pressure they'd receive because the job fair is gone but they have another 6 months on campus? It's called the internet. Statement of interest, phone calls with recruiters followed up by a meeting somewhere. I remember the campus hate days during 'Nam. The good ones flew under the radar. The Feds were glad to see their smarts in action.

UC Irvine has s preponderance of foreign nationals in attendance. This is the USA - we can cawtaw to these demands . Not long ago they wanted to remove the flag - that failed . If they do not wish to conform to our societies norms and requirements LAX is a short ride up the road. Plans leaving fir international destinations ever 30 minutes.

"The petition claimed the mere presence of Border Patrol representatives could prove traumatic for students"...are you freakin serious? Maybe if your a** IS illegal they might, but they're here to recruit not arrest and deport. I'm also bothered by the fact that most of the signatures were from clowns not even in the school! I had an old 1SG who always said "screw ups were often a case of PPL (Piss Poor Leadership)". If only how right he was in this case.

I can't get a handle on why so many students and schools fight the American heritage witch has given them all these rights and they want to destroy it and their lives, just as it with the hippies in the 60's lets make love good Ideal but to farfetch. They don't know how good they have it in these day's and times. The Flag is a representation for what we stand for. I have said several times if you don't like America get the hell out of here and see how all the other countries live. You'll be ready to ask forgiveness and for America to let you back in. I did some of these for CBP. UC Irvine is an extremely liberal school next to Berkley. They would be looking and FORCE a confrontation with the officers. It's a loosing situation and better not to be on national news.

I think that it was wrong for the Border Patrol to pull out of the job fair, it shows weakness.
If a group want to protest that's their right, get your permits and protest your little butts off. The police can provide adequate protection and if any protestors get threatening or violent they can arrest them.
A potential employer should not pull out of a job fair over security concerns, if that's the case move the entire job fair.
