Look at the side of the stairs where the stucco is different at the point the stair and wall meet, it s a telltale sign that the stairs are jutting out towards the viewer, therefore the cat is coming down the stairs.

Down, the flower pattern on the step would be worn if foot traffic walked on it, and the step lip wouldn't ever be on the top of a step.

During the time of the photo, take the du point of the grass, multiply by 2, add the barometric pressure after you divide it by 3.2 and it the answer if above 50, the cat is going up and if its below 50, the cat is going down.

The answer is the lip of the stair. There is never a lip on the top of stairs it's always on the front, so the cat is coming down the stairs.

Based on those (horizontal) structural accoutrements, I say kitteh is heading downwards. Steps would not have those facing vertically, methinks. :)

There are no stairs. It is a flat floor with tile creating an optical illusion of stairs. :)

I voted down, both because of the orientation of the lip on the stairs (the most obvious) and the brick/trim on the left side makes sense being parallel to the tread, but would look out of place being parallel to the riser.

if it were going the opposite way, it would be going nowhere. It appears the opposite wall (or floor) meets the stairs on the far side, which would be weird if it were the top of the stairs. however, if it were the floor, that's what you'd expect to see.

It's down. The tread edges and support structure are shown well enough to see the overlap and where it is cemented into the structure.

They did a great job of over exposing the picture which makes the area behind the stairs look indistinguishable from ground.
