Go for it as the dog is an extension of you and your service. Look at this way as another way to add your service flair.

What type of service dog? If you have one of the emotional support dogs then it's your dog and you can do whatever you want to and nobody has any leg to stand on to tell you otherwise. If your a dog handler like myself then your kennels SOP might have an answer but your NCO's should be letting you know what's acceptable and what's not. I know several of my handlers have patches on their MWD's harnesses or vests, but I personally do not because that's my personal preference.

Many Veterans have uniform pieces on their service dogs. Here is a picture of my wife's service dog Takoda in his vest made from her old BDU's.
