I think it's an interesting time in the history of not only the relationship between the US and the peninsula. How prepared are we for major combat operations in the area? I would say we are modernly prepared.

I really wish we hadn't stopped the exercise. Apparently things there seem more serious than we had thought.

The problem is that if they aren't, we just let North Korea win that battle. And unfortunately every small win for them they view as enormous.

Considering the psycho we're are dealing with, it's probably a good idea as not to give him an excuse/reason for a confrontation. If he got it during an exercise, North propaganda would dictate that aggressive action were taken for invasion in the guise of an exercise, and would indicate we/South started it as the perfect excuse to invade. Any exercise at this point would be a great opportunity for this and possibly futile. Lets wait for them to f-up and take care of their asses once and for all...

North Korea apparently issued an ultimatum for South Korea to shut down the DMZ speaker system by 5pm Saturday or "else".

This was a partial temporary halt to allow SK to respond to the shelling. The exercise has resumed.

Regardless probable United States involvement in a Korean conflict, South Korea maintains capable military forces that are properly equipped to defeat North Korea independent United States involvement at the tactical level.

I was dumbfounded when I read that. I personally took part in that joint SK, US and UN exercise twice. It truly serves a couple purposes, show of strength and show of readiness. Also would show the little fat boy he needs to be careful how far he pushes. We have the ability to take his ass out and he knows it.
