They can teach you the basics of pace, breathing and provide an extra boost of motivation. I found running to be difficult at first, but it has grown into a very fulfilling hobby. My tip would be not to " come off" your Permant Profile but rather use your other skill sets to help others and take other avenues to further your career so you do not jeopardize your health or cause a lifetime of pain and suffering. In the end this is your decision and you know your body the best. I wish you good luck either way. I was on permanent profile at the time (walked instead of run). It's a Couch-to-5k app. It's inexpensive at $2.00. It's a side app with the main one called Zombies Run. The 5k version is for people, who like me started it last year, not running any distance for years. It has voice queues and some minor exercises in it, but it does help get back to running. It's an 8 week period; at 3 runs a week to get to running a 5k without stopping. It's zombie themed so there's some entertainment. Users can link a music playlist that plays in-between audio clips.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombies5k&hl=en

Zombies, Run! 5k Training - Android Apps on Google Play

The world's most epic 8-week run training program and audio adventure

Response by SPC Brian Mason made Jun 7 at 2016 8:00 PM 2016-06-07T20:00:35-04:00 2016-06-07T20:00:35-04:00 SSG Marcellus Pierre 1608091

Yes...take your time, no matter what!
