True or False? Prenuptial agreements make families stronger

It may seem counterintuitive to think of prenuptial agreements as a relationship building tool. However, the one you are about to marry is probably the closest person to you in your life. You have been through a lot together, shared your secrets, hopes and dreams. When it comes to discussing a premarital agreement, you have to ask yourself: can I truly discuss anything in the world with this person I love?

Honest, open discussion probably helped foster the depth of your relationship in the first place. A candid conversation about what is important to you, even in the context of an eventuality you hope will never come to pass, can serve to build on the solid foundation you have already established. Future spouses can confront their worst fears and come out of it closer than ever.

Great question. I've never really thought about that. In my opinion, if you have found the right one in your eyes, it shouldn't matter what either of you bring to the table in material possessions or in monetary value. With that being said, I believe starting your marriage off with a pre-nup is ultimately undermining the trust and overall aspect of marriage. I understand the role of a pre-nup but I don't agree with it.

Depends upon the couple. It could either be a sign of lack of commitment to the marriage or a reassurance for an insecure spouse.

It starts the marriage out by preparing for divorce. Understandably necessary in some instances, but I can't imagine how a foundation of distrust would ever make anything stronger.

I think that a pre-nup might be a wise or even necessary step when one party has significant material assets to protect, such as land holdings, an inheritance, or a business venture.
However, in the abstract what I see here is going into a marriage, an institution where trust is critical, with a divorce plan already on your lips. I firmly believe that once divorce becomes an acceptable option, the liklihood of it happening skyrockets.

Currently living the devestating impacts of divorce, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I can't endorse anything that makes it seem like a more palatable option.

Doesn't make families stronger, but it sure helps if it was ever to fall apart.

Even if you don't earn much now. Something may change down the road of life, and then you may find yourself wishing you had it!
Especially with young soldiers succeptible to dependas! And no, I'm not referring to legitimate military sposes! There is a difference.

You probably shouldn't marry people you feel capable of treating you unfairly. Marriage should start out in an act of trust. if your believe fully the person is trustworthy, Dont marry them.

I think if you go in with this sort of mindset, that it is really a sign that you are not fully committed to it.

It's a reminder that law has overshadowed marital vows. Too many people get married with the intent to make it work, but divorce has become so easy, some just give up and expect the law to split assets not earned. I've seen several couples separate after only a few years and one spouse still expects half. The old laws on the books meant to protect the stay at home mom need to be revisited now that women are overwhelmingly working.

If you need a pre-nup to get married you shouldn't tie the knot in my opinion.
