Transitioning AC2RC, and reporting to reserve MP unit next month. Slotted in E5 as an E4, and still must reclass. How would I attend BLC?

I have not attended BLC or went back to AIT to reclass as an MP

If the unit allows, you can attend BLC now, however it will be unlikely. You will more than likely have to reclass THEN attend BLC. But the best way to get that answer is to contact the unit you are going to.

this is a discussion to have with your first line supervisor. There is far too little information given here to give you advice. I can however tell you that if you refer to yourself or others as a pay grade and not by their rank you will have a hard time getting promoted to sergeant (not E5) there is a difference

BLC is a non-MOS specific school, so I don't think it matters as long as you meet the current qualifications of the school itself to begin.

I thought you would go to your reserve MP gaining unit (ARNG or USAR) go to MOS 31A Q school then go by order of merit list for the BLC by PT score and meeting height/weight? I know the gaining unit would put you in for your BLC school. Did I miss something here? NCOs help me out!

You will have to get re-class first. You most likely will not go through AIT and will go through a reclass school. 2 weeks this FY then 2 weeks next FY. If the unit has the funds you can request BLC as well. You are not guaranteed promotion just because you are in an E5 slot. You must meet all the requirements first. Not saying you didn't know that just a reminder. make yourself available to attend BLC with short notice and you most likely will get it. Best wishes!!

SFC P,

You will need to get DMOSQ first. Then you will get on an BLC OML based on the USARC Policy with priority levels and you MSC policies. If you are on the PPRL on Active Duty it will transfer to the RC.

We had reserve and guard guys tdy at BLC at Ft. Benning. One was from NY the other Michigan. So I'm sure they would send you to AIT first. You have time to complete blc after they pin you sgt.

The reserves do not use AIT to reclass. The school house provides 2-4 week courses for reserves to reclass (you can search attrs.army.mil course catalog). The unit's priority will to be getting you into MOSQ. After you are MOS qualified you can request to attend BLC. The command may have a policy about priority.
