Earlier today, I saw something about Toastmasters in a response to a question. Who here is or has been a Toastmaster? What was your experience like? Overall, I wholeheartedly endorse Toastmasters for anyone that wants to enhance their communication or leadership skills.
Of those who are or have been Toastmasters, have you participated in contests? If so, what did you think of them?

Bumping this. I was about to ask a question about Toastmasters. I have seen the website of the local group and was wondering how long there meetings are? How many can you attend before the expectation of joining?

I see that there hasn't been much discussion on this topic. I've been a member of Toastmasters for over 10 years. The individual clubs help teach you communications and leadership skills so that you're effective and efficient with interacting with all sorts of people. As for the contests, I've participated in them at the club level. Sometimes, I think the judging is somewhat judgmental and who wins isn't someone I think shouldn't have won. But that's minor. I think that if you want to improve these types of skills, it's worthwhile. For more information, see the link:

It is great! Got my triple crown two weeks ago. I am a member of 2 clubs and really enjoy it. One club is held at a Veteran's retirement home and most of the members are Vets.

I've been in Toastmasters for 5 years. I began as part of my transition from the Army. So far it has been a positive experience for growth and learning. I've been fortunate to participate in a speech contest and somewoh making it to the 4th level of competition.

It is also a great environment for networking. Especially at the division and district events.
