We have many military history buffs out there, and the idea here is to share those often forgotten moments in history, that have a unique story to tell. So, post those stories and any amplifying information to include: articles, photos, links, or anything else necessary to describe your historical account. I'm certain that this will be a great time, and we'll certainly learn a thing-or-two in the process; so put on your thinking caps, strap on your seatbelts, and let's get this thing started. Thank you for all that you do, and... see you all in the discussion threads!

Navajo Code Talkers: The unbreakable code
During WWII, this one unique native language code was unbreakable. This language confounded the Japanese military. They never could break the code. The Navajos took part in every assault the USMC did from 1942-1945. The first two days during the Battle of Iwo Jima, Navajo code talkers sent and received over 800 messages without mistakes using their native language. The 420 volunteer Navajo Code Talkers saved many USMC lives in the Pacific Campaign and wreaked havoc on the defending Japanese that occupied the islands. Their ability to relay messages with information between ground and naval forces was critical in the success of US Forces.
Like in the movie Wind Talkers, the Marines protected the code at all costs.
I'm still amazed about this when reading WWII articles.
