It's very important we use this money in ways like this to show the values of Democratic countries and the positive things we do around the world to help the poor and disenfranchised. Yes it would be nice to spend that money here at home and have a slightly larger paycheck and retirement benefits, but I can guarantee the people this money goes to need it a whole hell of a lot more. Besides that, the more good will we can essentially "buy" in the world, the less likely it is we'll be facing those same people as enemies further down the road. People and countries tend to remember who was there for them when they were down on their luck, and the U.S. could do with some much needed positive publicity, and a lot more friends on our side of the court. Personally, as a tax paying citizen, I don't see much of a problem with this, we've been doing the same type of thing since WWI and I don't see it changing anytime soon.Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 5 at 2014 3:23 PM2014-03-05T15:23:41-05:002014-03-05T15:23:41-05:00SrA Zachary Bolling70277<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>1 Billion freaking dollars!! Imagine what that could do for our country. It is, of course, nothing compared to the 16 trillion + national debt but wouldn't it make sense to invest that money into something that will benefit the U.S.. Such as getting the retirees awaiting their&nbsp;retirement checks the money they need to survive instead of putting so many of them on food stamps and unemployment. Maybe put some towards helping the homeless population of this country. Those are the first to pop in my head but I'm sure there is a better use of that money within our sinking ship that we call a country. When will Congress and the other politicians start putting&nbsp;their own country on the top of their priority list and stop trying to fatten their own wallets and scratching everyone else's back. This just seems&nbsp;like a vulgar display&nbsp;of bad decision making.&nbsp;Response by SrA Zachary Bolling made Mar 5 at 2014 4:18 PM2014-03-05T16:18:50-05:002014-03-05T16:18:50-05:00CW2 Jonathan Kantor102505<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I agree but this is actually something we budget for. I don't know how much we put aside, but there is a foreign aid part of our budget and we give a lot of money to a lot of countries. It's almost an investment. Since the money is budgeted, it would require the Congress to re-appropriate the funds to domestic programs and that isn't going it happen. The U.S. is far too concerned with external aid than it is on rebuilding our infrastructure, education, etc..<br>Response by CW2 Jonathan Kantor made Apr 15 at 2014 11:17 AM2014-04-15T11:17:30-04:002014-04-15T11:17:30-04:00SSgt Harvey "Skip" Porter3111090<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Absolutely totally ridiculous.
