There are 6 states that allow cousins to marry? What are your thoughts on this?

... and that's what I get for doing my own thinking. I tried to guess which ones it was legal in and was so wrong. Also, with all due respect, you read it a little wrong. It is illegal in 25 states. Of the remaining, it is fully legal in 19 and with conditions in 6. Who would have thought it was illegal in West Virginia?

There should be no law regarding this.  I read once that a good 1/4th of the people in the world are married to their cousin (1st 2nd 3rd).<div><br></div><div>Just because people think something is "Gross" does not mean it should be illegal</div>

What an interesting choice of topic! I don't know, I thought my cousin that was 6 months older than me was pretty hot! Of course that was after 6 weeks of basic training locked up without seeing a single woman, so my viewpoint may have been a little skewed at the time.

Now, not so much but then I'm no spring chicken either!

On a simple CRM level, marrying a first cousin and having children with them has a negligible increase in the risk of genetic defects in said offspring as long as you are not part of an ethnic grouping that carries a specific genetic defect at high rates; such as Ashkenazi Jews.<br>That aside, unless the cousin in question lived with you close to 24/7 like a sibling, it is very much like marrying someone you grew up close to in a small town.<br><br>I am more concerned about the different traffic laws in different states making me a potential criminal on a road trip.
