Not just because it had abandoned most of its military equipment on the beaches of Dunkirk but also because the Restrictive gun control policies and laws of its own government that required subjects to demonstrate "good reason" to merely obtain a handgun or rifle had left the citizenry of Great Britain unarmed. They were were defended by an ill-equipped and defeated army and a "Home Guard" armed with little more than sporting shotguns and pikes.

The government and the people of the U.S. came to the rescue. The U.S. government provided military arms to the British government through the Lend-Lease Act while individual U.S. citizens donated their own firearms to the "American Comittee for Defense of British Homes, which placed advertisements in the NRA's American Rifleman magazine asking Americans to send pistols, rifles, revolvers, shotguns, and binoculars because British civilians, faced with the threat of invasion, desperately needed arms to defend their homes. Thousands of firearms were collected from Joe citizen and sent to England and doled out to the citizenry there. Hardly any of those firearms were ever returned after the war ended and were, most likely, confiscated and destroyed by the British government.Response by Cpl Mark McMiller made Jun 5 at 2017 6:48 PM2017-06-05T18:48:59-04:002017-06-05T18:48:59-04:00PO3 Steven Sherrill2627947

PVT Mark Brown Carry a spike strip? The reality is that these acts cannot be stopped regardless of armed or unarmed citizens. It is a constant game of cat and mouse between the terrorists shitstains, and decent folk. Take the concert bombing. That human shaped turd placed the bomb outside of the security area. No check, just destruction. With the car rampages, people have become so dependent and attached to our cars that any attempt at banning them would meet such push back from the public that it wouldn't be worth trying. The only thing people can do is be vigilant, and report what they see. Problem with that is that people have developed a mentality of not getting involved, or if it doesn't effect me I don't care. There is something to be said for the cowardice of the terrorists though. They have a tendency to stay away from places where they are likely to encounter armed resistance. A soft target is a good target.Response by PO3 Steven Sherrill made Jun 6 at 2017 12:58 PM2017-06-06T12:58:35-04:002017-06-06T12:58:35-04:002017-06-04T14:16:54-04:00
