I have long thought, SGM (Join to see), that we're lucky if we know half the real truth about things that happen in world affairs, heck, even just things that make the news. When politics and politicians are involved, there's a tremendous need to keep the image and the electability of a person alive. (If they're not up for re-election or can't be re-elected, then it's the legacy.)

Then there are legitimate times when information is kept from the public, like when it's truly classified.

That is a very interesting story about information being redacted because it's classified, on the one hand, and then, on the other hand, being found in the wide open history of the State Department.
