The is do you think that male Soldiers should be allowed to wear ear rings while not in uniform or on a military installation or functions?

This question was brought up at a meeting we had with the company. Personally I think a person should keep a professional appearance at all times, whether in or out of uniform. While that being said, as a recruiter, we just didn't want holes in the ear on applicants.

I personally have no issue with a person wearing earrings out of uniform, however due to the regulation I will enforce the AR 670-1 as it states that it is not authorized. My personal beliefs do not warrant my overlooking the reg.

Then you have to determine when an earring is too big! Like the gauging that leaves gaping holes in the ear lobes.

IT really comes with ones preference. I do not like Soldiers/NCO with mustaches, Honestly what you do on your own time is your business as long as you are maintaining your Soldier professionalism. I think that this could make leaders have a ground to stand on when pushing for a neg counseling/chapters if they see you out and about wearing earrings and such. In uniform it only makes sense why we don't.

If not in uniform or a professional military function, as long as it has taste by looking decent and not outrageous I have no complaints about it.

When I first saw this rule I was kind of shocked why we are not allowed to so some explanation would be helpful also! Its not a big deal to me for someone who wore ear rings when i wasn't in the military but I don't know the reasoning on why not if you are off post or on leave. I understand even when not in uniform one is still a solider but still.
