SPC George Long From what I've heard so far, it seems that the majority of the people from the area do feel that way. Obama not only politicized the whole affair in his address, but he also told the country that the shooting was, "something we should politicize".

If I was a family member, being told that the death of my son, or daughter, was something that the Government had the right to use, at their discretion, for political advantage, I would not be happy about it either. Whereas the death of a child is a matter that a parent might actually appreciate a member of the federal Government taking note of (see Kate Steinle), abusing the information for some political agenda is just plain wrong.

Why not let the family of the victims decide who to welcome or who not to welcome !

SGT Lou Meza The families have stated they don't want the President there. Including Chris Mintz, the vet that was shot.

You all are missing the point of this article. The extremely valid point of this article isn't to tell the president to come. It is telling the president that they see his true intentions- he shows up to these things and preaches his anti-gun agenda. These people don't want him to go take a tragedy to gain a political advantage to achieve his goals. He doesn't give a rat's ass about the victims or the community that endured this tragedy. Therefore I understand why people would want to mourn and put closure to this event without someone claiming they could have prevented the entire thing by disarming only law-abiding citizens.

Regardless of how some people feel toward the POTUS, it is not up to them to tell him where he can and cannot go. I have never seen and heard so much disrespect for a POTUS in all my life. I as a soldier was not allowed to disrespect or bash my chain of command openly. How can they do that and still claim to be Patriotic. No matter how I felt, disagreed and disliked Pres G H W Bush OR G W Bush I and others did not openly disrespect them. Pres Obama was voted in twice so apparently everyone does not think he is any worse than any other president. It is amazing that all the people that know foreign policies, politics and how the country should be ran are not in the White House but are doing nothing but sitting on their ass complaining and agreeing with what other that don't know what they are talking about. What is our Country coming to. And no, I do not agree with everything that Pres Obama is doing but I am smart enough to know that the CIA, Sec of Def, Chief of Staff and all others are not letting me in on everything so I can make a decision.

You have never heard of so much disrespect for a President of the United States? Seriously, where were you during the Bush Administration? Where were you during the Nixon Administration? Where were you during the Clinton or Lincoln Administrations? Okay, none of us were around for that latter one, but we know that President Lincoln was reviled within a large section of the nation. He was portrayed as an ape man, a baboon and a coward.

Yes he is the commander in chief. And because I AM patriotic- I don't like him one bit. He's not an American. He does not care about this country, he only wants to change it. Bush had his problems but he was an American. He loved this country, and I gave him due respect. Would I obey a direct order from Obama? Sure I would but I still have no respect for the man. It's called having a bad supervisor. You're lucky you apparently never had to experience that.

The ones that don't want to see him don't have to go around him, a few people in any town don't speak for the whole town unless they have a hand up their butt like a puppet and maybe you.

You should change your title to be more accurate, which should read:

"One rich guy hates Obama."

Really? You're going with the "evil rich" explanation? The fact is that Oregon votes Democratic regularly because its two principle cities harbor enough voters to decide election outcomes for the entire state. Rural Oregon is most decidedly Republican. A small town newspaper couldn't survive if it didn't reflect the values of the community it serves. Thus, President Obama doesn't enjoy any special advantage there. Sure, there are citizens in that small college town who would happily welcome the President even if he is visiting only for the photo op and to advance his ideological agenda. However, from what I've heard, the majority of the community isn't "down" with it. Now, do they have the right to hide the welcome mat from the President? Well, if President Obama showed up on my doorstep, could I deny him entry into my home? Of course I could. Could I deny him entry into my community? Of course not. However, there is no requirement that the members of my community or any other must line the streets and make him welcome. I do believe that is all this publisher is saying. BTW, what evidence is there that this publisher is rich? Remember we're talking about a "small town" newspaper here...

A lot of poor folk in Roseburg were just on TV here asking him not to come as they did not want their families used as a backdrop to garner votes,,,,even in a State that almost always vote LEFT.

SPC George Long While I'm no fan of Obama's, it's not right to perpetuate the misconception that ONE MAN represents 'the citizens of Douglas County and Roseburg', in either that article or your title here.

SFC James Barnes - Regardless -- and for the record, I don't want him to go either, and I AM an Oregonian, who's grandparents were born and raised in Roseberg - that ONE MAN doesn't speak for me or anyone but himself. So to portray it like he does, either in that article or this thread, is disingenuous at best. So I think my theory is just fine, thanks.

It seems the shooters mother who bought him some of his guns and moved him here from California felt he had some mental issues He also was upset that he had no girlfriend. Maybe they should have made a pit stop in Nevada on the way here.. I think mom needs to be arrested and charged.....http://news.yahoo.com/writings-ore-gunman-ranted-having-no-girlfriend-080456993.html#
