UPDATE: TN Courts Reverse Ban on 'Mother' and 'Father' on Forms

Children in Tennessee will now have "Parent 1" and "Parent 2" instead of a mother and a father, according to Tennessee’s Administrative Office of the Courts.

I'm pretty sure that everyone still has a male and a female parent.
Depending on the form, it would be relevant even in cases where the child was adopted.

The Law should be gender neutral. Especially when you consider long term ramifications like divorce. There should be no implied advantage to being a the "mother" as compared to the "father" when both parents should be on equal footing.

Just because we don't emotionally like something doesn't mean there isn't a logical reason for something to exist.

The military got rid of the terms Husband & Wife, replacing it with the term Spouse which is gender neutral. This is no different.
