Tabasco is American as apple pie... Do you eat hot sauce?

I love my hot sauce...and after 18.5 years of eating Tabasco sauce military style...I can no longer live without it. I have certainly branched out and tried the Pace Picantes, Habanero sauces, and the Salsa Verdes...but I always. Come back to my Tabasco.

Do you eat hot sauce?
Do you attribute it to having to add flavor to the bland MREs?

An awesome green salsa recipe that can be made in about 15 mins and is sure to please: 5-6 Tomatillos unhusked, and boiled for about 3 mins. Half a bunch of cilantro. Juiced from 4 freshly squeezed limes, and 5-6 Serrano peppers, and 1 small white onion peeled. The fruit of two avocadoes, Sea salt to taste. Throw all ingredients in blender (in order) and puree for about 1 minute. Served warm with favorite chips and sour cream.

Tabasco is amazing. I carry a bottle wrapped in a sock within my ruck sack.

You should also try Tapatio sauce.

Tabasco is like the duct tape of sauces. It's good with food. It's great for practical jokes. It serves a purpose when tired on guard duty. And, it's medicinal....

I saw an episode of "How It's Made" SSG(P) Private RallyPoint Member, and learned that the pepper mixture in Tabasco Sauce "matures" in a wooden barrel for THREE YEARS before they mix it up with the vinegar.

There is nothing finer on eggs than Tabasco, Nothing. That being said I have about 15 bottles of various sauces that work better for certain dishes, for example a habanero mango is perfect for fish. Smoked sauce is great on burgers and meatloaf. You do no have to be crazy to eat trinidad scorpion salsa but it helps.

Pickled eggs made with Habenero is also very tasty!!! Be sure to add carrots, garlic, and onion to the mix.

We referred to the bottle of hot sauce on the mess hall tables as "emergency ration kit". However, Tabasco was rare; more often it would be Trappey's.

Today, I have a wonderful variety to choose from -- several Mexican sauces, some American ones, and especially Dave's Insanity Sauce.

You apply that stuff with a toothpick, not a spoon.

And to tie Tabasco more firmly to apple pie, my late father in law was known to put Tabasco on apple pie.

He gave us some sea story from his adventures as a Seabee in New Guinea in explanation, but we always suspected that he did that mostly to annoy his wife.

SSG(P) Private RallyPoint Member, the salt and peppers used in Tabasco Original Red Sauce by the McIlhenny Company is acutally mined and grown on Avery Island in Iberia Parish, LA.

4 cans of roasted diced tomatoes, drained,
6 jalapeño peppers, roasted and diced
2 habanero peppers, diced,
1/2 purple onion diced
1/4 white onion diced
Cilantro (I add to flavor, not sure how much)
Roast 2 ears of corn and add the corn to the mix

That's my recipe, but I have a soft spot for the salsa I included a picture of...if I'm looking to buy instead of making my own

I am a big fan of the chipotle version that Tabasco makes. Try that as an alternative in a Bloody Mary.
