OK... You had me going for awhile, but I knew it was a joke when I saw this line about the sailor who had to go topside to:

"... repaint a patch on the planes that had gotten scraped when we were in that tiff with the ghost pirates..."

Duh... the planes on a Virginia-class are underwater all the time. You can't paint them at sea...
