One issue that's always bothered me is the ban on breed specific dogs on post. I currently live off post so I'm not really experiencing any problems, but I'd like to get the communities thoughts on it.<br>Specific Dog Breed Ban on POST...............................2014-01-12T10:13:23-05:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member36754<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I've been working to rescue dogs, and working with dogs who we've rescued since I moved back stateside. Too many rules on everything from what dogs you can have to who can stay at your house and for how long. So many things that would be a non issue off base are a big deal on.Response by LTC Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 12 at 2014 10:20 AM2014-01-12T10:20:12-05:002014-01-12T10:20:12-05:00SFC Stephen P.36762<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Makes about as much sense (i.e. none at all) to me as bans on certain categories of weapons (nunchucks, switchblades, saps, modern repeating rifles, etc.). <br><br>It could be argued that those with a propensity to misuse animals are attracted to those breeds, but that sauce is weak at best.<br>Response by SFC Stephen P. made Jan 12 at 2014 10:48 AM2014-01-12T10:48:23-05:002014-01-12T10:48:23-05:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member36778<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>For me, like humans, some dogs could be born "bad", but it's definitely not dependent on their breed. In my eyes, it's more about the owner than the dog. Now we have Soldiers forcefully giving up their family pets, and as much time and money is spent studying other things, the Army would rather just conform and follow society when it comes to this, with no realization the vast amount of families they're really affecting.<br>Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 12 at 2014 12:10 PM2014-01-12T12:10:21-05:002014-01-12T12:10:21-05:00SPC Matthew Birkinbine37189<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I think it's ridiculous to ban a breed. Maybe if more enforcement went into taking care of the dogs that just bark aggressively without provocation, there would be a little better behaved population on post. Given a timeframe to sell, retrain, or get out of housing, I think we'd see an increase in available housing, or at least a decline in lengthy waiting lists.Response by SPC Matthew Birkinbine made Jan 13 at 2014 1:35 AM2014-01-13T01:35:55-05:002014-01-13T01:35:55-05:001SG Private RallyPoint Member37192<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Its not just on post it is the country as a whole. I love rottweilers but you cant have them anywhere. I call it pet racism. Just like humans it is about how they are raised not the color( or breed in this case) that they are.Response by 1SG Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 13 at 2014 2:00 AM2014-01-13T02:00:31-05:002014-01-13T02:00:31-05:002014-01-12T10:13:23-05:00
