Some 35-series (intel) jobs require a language and others don’t. Can I volunteer for language training and get sent to DLI?

The best way to go to DLI is to enlist as a 35W. Guaranteed slot. (If you graduate DLI, you become a 35P. If you don’t, you reclass, probably to 35N).
Do you want to be a linguist, or do you want a 35 series, with the option of going to DLI later?

You can volunteer for anything. If the Army has needs, you get lucky. I volunteered to be a millionaire....the Army did not have a need for that, so I did not get it. (When I get borded and forms are sitting around, I get dangerous. )

MOS 35W and 35M currently require language training at DLI. You will have to score high enough on the DLAB to be considered for either. 35W will transfer to 35P after you graduate your language training and 35M is Human Intelligence Collector which has the new requirement of being proficient in a language as well for new recruits.

35N can go to DLI. I was a Plt SGT there at C Co from 2007-2009. But since the MOS is not language dependent dont look at getting restarted or rolled back if you start failing. Put in the 4187 and request the DLAB. If you score high enough request a class.

You can apply for anything you want to, If your platoon sergeant sees that your scores are high they will be more likely to send you
