If it is faddish, then provide the soldier with the reasoning and the difference between the two styles and have him get it fixed to meet the standard. If I were to get a part it would have to be cut in, because I have to have hippie hair before I could get it part otherwise. Buzzy clipper with no guard once a week is my hair style instead.
