SSG (35F), 11 years TIS. I am also going to reenlist indefinitely this year. Looking to go Airborne and support SOCCENT. Can anyone point me in the right direction for first steps. Is there an application process like USASOC? Do I just speak with a career counselor? Wed, 02 Mar 2016 13:50:44 -0500 SOCCENT assignment. They will mostly be able to help you with getting airborne. Your branch manager can help facilitate that process as well. Soccent however is not something you can reenlist for. It's special operations command and normally there is an application process involved. I would start with getting in touch with with a soc recruiter and they should be able to get the process started and point you in the right direction. Hope that helps you out a little. Some of those billeted are nominative and require a few additional steps than the normal assignament process: there is too much at stake so branch will screen and select the best for nomination. Yes, the gaining unit has an enormous vote on the process. No recruiting involved! There is not a packet or recruiting process like JSOC. Your branch manager has the contact information.
There are several reasons you won't get this as your next assignment though. First, your next assignment is limited by your DEROS. Second, it sounds like you are not airborne yet; the chance that will be your first Airborne assignment is almost zero.
Also, there is no duty station of choice in your final reenlistment. Your best option is to apply to the USASOC slating board later this year, earn your S identifier, and work your way in from there.
