So I am reclassifying to MOS 14E this August. How hard is it to get promoted as a 14E and rise through enlisted ranks? 2020-07-14T18:30:36-04:00 PFC Private RallyPoint Member 6101945

I know how the technical stuff goes, I’m just curious about promotions in this MOS, and how hard it is to get promoted in this MOS/how to get promoted fast as a 14E. If so, it’s usually published to see the scores required for a promotion. Used to be a minimum of 450 (I think). These can be dependent on TIS (time ine service) TIG (time in grade). Promotion to SGT requires you go to a promotion board as a SPC to obtain (P) or promotable status. You will then need to attend (BLC) basic leader course, and graduate. Each MOS has a different point requirement. The points will drop every so often to "pick up" the SPC or several SPC with the highest amount of points to replace outgoing NCO's. Some mos like 11B I have seen pick up over 300 SGT/E-5 in a single month. As my mos only picked up around 15 SGT/E-5 this year so far and 2 SSG. For faster promotion, do well on PT Test, correspondence courses should be maxed, do good at the range, any college is worth points as well and can really help out for promotion to SGT. Also getting awards helps out as well. Completing BLC getting a spot on the commandants list is worth points as well. For that you need to be in the top 5% of the class. Word of advice don't focus on Commandants List, worry about completing each individual assignment with quality as they are given to you. That is what I did and earned a spot on Commandants list. Don't focus on the long term goal instead focus on the short term goals as in the end they will lead you to the long term goal. There is a set schedule on the minimum amount of Time in Service and Time in Grade an SM must spend before they are eligible to get promoted. Take note this is the MINIMUM time that MUST be spent and there is no maximum really as promotions are up to the commander to initiate. That said it is not hard to get promoted and providing a person comes into the Army as an E-1 and does their job and does not screw up and just runs the middle of the road, they could see E-4 inside of 24 months.

Once you hit E-4 then the battle begins as now you must attend boards, BLC and then be in the range on points to make E-5. At each step after it gets more detailed and harder. Find their promotion success ladder and crush it! Pull a blank NCOER and make a plan on how to get excellence in each one. Without doing these things you’ll be passed up once you hit the higher ranks. But this depends on your current rank now as well.
