So, how is everyone liking the RallyPoint App?

Seems mostly like a web-based interface, but it's less buggy than using mobile Chrome for me. Often times I have issues scrolling or using the panel on the left when using mobile Chrome.

Thoughts?

I'm liking that I can add a photo from my phone which didn't really seem to work before.

It isn't necessarily a full app but rather it seems to be a port of the mobile site into an app but it seems to function better than the mobile site on mobile chrome on my iPhone.

The scrolling is a little buggy and hitting the status bar should scroll you to the too like most iPhone apps but it doesn't seem to.

I'm sure they will eventually...wouldn't want to roll out just 'any' app, but an app that rivals other more prominent social media sites. ;)

Glad you are enjoying the experience! We released a mobile web friendly version of the site in November, but we realize a full app would be preferred. It's on our roadmap for development, but we can't give a timeline yet. We release improvements to the site, in general, every week. An app though is a very extensive project because we don't like doing anything half way at RallyPoint.

We are always looking for top technical talent. If there are any iOS or Android developers within the community, they should contact us for sure.

There is an unofficial Rally Point app for Android available in the Google Play store. It doesn't have all of the features the website does, but it'll do until RP comes out with an official app.

I recall someone suggesting this a few months back SFC Jones, I think it's in the works actually. I would also like to see a "REPORT" button for suspected spammers/trolls that we may encounter. I don't want "spam or block" capabilities, but I do wanna be able to REPORT issues quickly for the good order and discipline within the system.

MAJ Weiss, CEO of RallyPoint emailed me this morning with this response. I would like to thank him for his excellent customer service.
"I'm the CEO of RallyPoint and noticed your post on RallyPoint smartphone apps. It's certainly something we very much want to get out to you folks... it will jus take some time. In the meanwhile, we have tried to put in a decent amount of effort into making RallyPoint more user friendly on smartphones."

I would use an App if they had one - but all that does is make RallyPoint more and more like a military Facebook and less like the professional networking tool it's "intended" to be.

I believe an app would make RP more effective and accessible as a tool/resource. For leaders that don't spend a lot of time at a desktop, the app would serve as a an easier way to stay connected, respond more quickly to questions and messages on the go. When I am at my desk, there is work that needs to be done, but in the Army of "hurry up and wait", I often find myself with some downtime at a range, before a meeting, while waiting for others. Being on an app does not make RP less professional (LinkedIn is a better example of a professional networking app than Facebook).

I think an app would be very beneficial to every member of Rally Point. We're in a world where everyone(almost everyone) has smart phones and tablets and are always on the go. Not everyone has the time to sit down at a desk top or a laptop and follow their favorite threads!

I sent feedback asking for an app a while back and Mr. Weiss responded:

Thanks for writing in, and for the positive feedback! We recently introduced a "mobile friendly" version of the site, which you may have noticed. I would personally also love to get an app out as well, and it's in our plans... but it won't be in the coming months unfortunately. We continue to improve the desktop version each week to the extent that we can. Thanks again for writing in, and contributing to the community!

There is already an app on Android. It is not created by RallyPoint, but instead by a guy named Nathan Speck. I use it and it's not perfect, but it works pretty well.

Lol, MSG! One of the first things I did when I joined RP was go to the app store to see if there was an app. I don't think it will be too long for one to come out (or at least I hope not). All the other social networking sites have one, so I think it is just a matter of time.

I have the mobile app for android (available int he Play store), not sure if the apple app is out there. It doesn't have the full functionality of the site but I believe they are working on it.

I just downloaded and set up the RallyPoint from iTunes that was released last night. While it is buggy, it's a good start and a welcomed addition to my phone.

I'm having problems scrolling. The app display doesn't fit my iPhone 5 screen, and I can't zoom in or out.

I have issues with it period! I have an android based phone and it really has issues. It will download, takes for ever to open, once it does cant use any of the drop downs, cant answer anything for a discussion. Really don't like it but maybe my crappy phone from sprint.

with all that said if It would work on my phone it would be a great app. But unfortunately had to uninstall do to all the glitches.

It's alright a few bugs, for instance trying to type in a dialog box makes the menu pop open and that gets in the way.

I'm glad I have another app to suck my time away!

FYI,

I've recently noticed that the Rally Point App for Android is available for download. I've been using it for the past few days for browsing. The notifications alerts indicates that I have an alert, but it doesn't state what it was for. Other than that, it works pretty good.

I can't get it to load; the phone I have has a very small amount of memory on it and it stops the download saying there is not enough memory.
App show like 43MB and I have something like 70MB available, but it won't go.
I have a 32GB memory card, does anyone know if the app stays on the phone or sits on and runs off the memory card?
I really like the phone for what it is except the memory.

The RP app though convenient, too often does not do what I ask it to do. Instead of responding to a post I see that I am viewing a profile. That is of course if the app is responding as indeed it is slow. I was very excited for the app, but I find that the interface is too small to adequately allow users to navigate.
